Analytics

Web

Data about how people use your website — how many visitors you get, where they come from, which pages they visit, and how long they stay. Google Analytics is the most common tool for this.

Alt Text

Web

A short written description of an image on your website. Screen readers use it to describe images to visually impaired users, and search engines use it to understand what an image shows.

Affiliate Link

Business

A special URL that tracks when someone clicks through from your recommendation and makes a purchase. The person who shared the link earns a small commission at no extra cost to the buyer.

B 2 terms

Bandwidth

Web

The amount of data that can be transferred between your website and its visitors in a given period. Think of it like a highway — more bandwidth means more cars can travel at once without slowdowns.

Backlink

Web

A link from another website that points to yours. Search engines treat backlinks as votes of confidence — the more quality backlinks you have, the more trustworthy your site appears.

C 3 terms

Cache

Web

A saved copy of your website stored temporarily so it loads faster for returning visitors. When you clear your cache, you force the browser to download a fresh version of the page.

CDN (Content Delivery Network)

Web

A network of servers spread around the world that deliver your website content from the server closest to each visitor. This makes your site load faster regardless of where someone is located.

CTA (Call to Action)

Business

A prompt that tells visitors what to do next — like a button that says "Get Started" or "Book a Call." Good CTAs are clear, specific, and easy to find on the page.

D 2 terms

Domain / Domain Name

Web

The address people type into their browser to find your website — like messha.io. You register a domain through a registrar and pay a yearly fee to keep it.

DNS (Domain Name System)

Web

The system that translates your domain name into an IP address so browsers can find your website. Think of it like a phone book for the internet — you look up a name and get a number.

F 1 term

Favicon

Web

The tiny icon that appears in your browser tab next to your website's title. Usually a small version of your logo. Easy to overlook but makes your site look polished and professional.

G 1 term

Google Analytics

Web

A free tool from Google that tracks and reports website traffic. It shows you how many people visit your site, where they come from, what pages they look at, and how long they stay.

H 2 terms

Hosting / Web Hosting

Web

The service that stores your website files on a server so people can access them online. Without hosting, your website does not exist on the internet — it is like renting space for your site to live.

HTML

Web

HyperText Markup Language — the basic building block of every webpage. It tells browsers what content to display and how to structure it. You do not need to know HTML to get a website built with Messha.

L 1 term

Landing Page

Web

A standalone web page designed for one specific goal — usually to get someone to sign up, buy something, or take a specific action. Unlike your homepage, a landing page has no distractions.

M 2 terms

Meta Description

Web

The short paragraph that appears under your page title in Google search results. It does not directly affect your ranking but it does affect whether someone clicks on your link.

Mobile Responsive

Web

A website that automatically adjusts its layout to look good on any screen size — phone, tablet, or desktop. Every Messha website is built to be mobile responsive by default.

N 1 term

Nava

Business

Messha's client portal. Once you sign up, Nava is where your project lives, your invoices are stored, your support requests are handled, and your site is managed — all in one place.

P 2 terms

Plugin

Web

A piece of software you add to WordPress to extend what it can do — like adding a contact form, improving SEO, or speeding up your site. Think of it like an app you install on your phone.

Privacy Policy

Business

A legal document on your website that explains what data you collect from visitors and how you use it. Most websites are legally required to have one, especially if they collect emails or use cookies.

R 1 term

Redirect

Web

An instruction that automatically sends visitors from one URL to another. Used when you move a page, change a domain, or want a short link to forward to a longer one.

S 3 terms

SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

Web

The practice of improving your website so it shows up higher in search results. Good SEO means more people find you on Google without you having to pay for ads.

SSL Certificate / HTTPS

Web

A security certificate that encrypts data sent between your website and its visitors. You can tell a site has one when the URL starts with https:// instead of http://. Every Messha site includes this by default.

Sitemap

Web

A file or page that lists all the pages on your website. It helps search engines discover and index your content. Think of it as a table of contents for your site.

T 2 terms

Template / Theme

Web

A pre-built design for your website that controls how it looks — fonts, colors, layout, and structure. Messha customizes a template to match your brand rather than building from scratch every time.

Traffic

Web

The number of visitors coming to your website. Traffic can come from search engines, social media, direct links, paid ads, or referrals from other sites.

U 1 term

Web

The percentage of time your website is online and accessible. 99.9% uptime means your site is down for less than 9 hours per year. Messha monitors uptime as part of Care.

W 2 terms

WordPress

Web

The most popular website platform in the world — powering over 40% of all websites. Messha builds all client sites on WordPress because it is flexible, reliable, and easy to manage once set up.

Wordmark

Design

A logo made entirely of stylized text — just the company name in a distinctive font or lettering style, with no icon or symbol. Google and Coca-Cola use wordmarks.
